Postdoc position in WSN

The University of Trento, Italy, seeks applications for a position for a post-doctoral researcher in the Department of Information and Communication Technology.
The position is part of a large project (5.3 MEUR) funded by the local government of the Trentino province. The project includes other local research centers, Siemens as industrial partner, as well as several research groups within the Department.
The goal of the project is to monitor and control road tunnels using wireless sensor networks (WSNs), to improve safety and reduce energy consumption. The project aims at a real deployment in four road tunnels near Trento. As such, the project provides a unique opportunity to investigate the challenges posed by WSN technology in a real environment: the project is partly on developing new research but, given the deployment constraints, a significant emphasis in placed on what it takes to solve real problems in a real environment.
Specifically, the position’s research topic is programming platforms and routing solutions for WSNs. The researcher is expected to collaborate with the Distributed Systems group in researching new solutions, as well as to supervise (and contribute to) the development and migration of research prototypes into the WSN deployment inside the road tunnels.
