The IPSO Alliance

Operating systems such as Contiki have supported it, the IETF 6lowpan group has standardized it, and startups such as Arch Rock have embraced it. Today a number of major market players announced the IPSO Alliance - the Internet Protocol for Smart Objects Alliance - that promotes the use of the Internet Protocol for sensor networks. Founding company include Cisco, Sun, Ericsson, Atmel, Freescale, Arch Rock, and Dust Networks. Technical advisory board includes JP Vasseur, Adam Dunkels, and David Culler, amongst others.
