PE-WASUN 2008

Saturday, April 12th, 2008

The Fifth ACM International Workshop on Performance Evaluation of Wireless Ad Hoc, Sensor, and Ubiquitous Networks will take place on October 27-31, 2008, in Vancouver, Canada.

Wireless ad hoc, sensor, along with ubiquitous networks have recently witnessed their fastest growth period ever in history, and this trend is likely to continue for the foreseeable future. However, as such networks become increasingly complex, performance modelling and evaluation will play a crucial part in their design process to ensure their successful deployment and exploitation in practice.

This workshop aims to share and exchange experiences, discuss challenges, and report state-of-the-art and in-progress research on all aspects of wireless ad hoc, sensor, and ubiquitous networks with a specific emphasis on their performance evaluation and analysis.
Check the CFP for list of topics of interest.

International PhD Workshop on Ad Hoc and Wireless Networks PhD-NOW’08

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

CALL FOR PAPERS
===============
The PhD-NOW seminar aims to provide a friendly and supportive atmosphere where PhD students can present their ongoing research, get constructive feedback and learn what problems are being tackled by the fellow students. More importantly, it also provides a venue for all students to “network” with each other, as well as with the established researchers, obtain valuable guidance and tips, and participate in a forum designed specifically to benefit graduate students. We particularly encourage PhD students from the EU convergence regions and Western Balkan countries to take part in the workshop. The seminar is supported by the PROSENSE, FP7 Support Action project .

Applicants should be far enough into their PhD to have a concrete proposal, and have initially outlined the most important issues and proposed research methodology. Selected abstracts will appear in the AdHOC-NOW proceedings. Comprehensive surveys of the state-of-the-art in relevant technologies are also encouraged.

ACM NSDR 2008 (with SIGCOMM’08)

Monday, February 4th, 2008
If you are interested in systems research for developing regions, then you should gear up for NSDR 2008. The 2nd Workshop on Networked Systems for Developing Regions (NSDR’08) will be held with SIGCOMM 2008 on 18th August, 2008 in Seattle, Washington, USA. acm-sigcomm.jpg

Following on a successful workshop at SIGCOMM 2007, NSDR’08 will provide a venue for researchers to propose and discuss ideas concerning Internet and communication technologies for developing regions. Given the SIGCOMM name and the strong program committee, this event is on its way to become the top event in developing regions research. We look forward to your participation!

Submission Deadline: 02 March, 2008

EWSN Tutorial: Computing in the Real World with Java

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

Speaker: Joe Polastre, Sentilla ltd. (USA)

Abstract: Pervasive Computing is about making the real world — and everything in it — smarter, through the use of small, wireless, battery-powered computers (often called “motes”) that can be put anywhere or attached to anything. By moving beyond wireless sensing to a full computing environment, pervasive applications can revolutionize the way we live, work, and play. Conventional wisdom asserts that low-power resource-constrained systems are incapable of running fully featured computing environments, such as Java. This talk shows the basic architecture of a pervasive computer, a Java Micro Edition (JavaME) platform extended to pervasive computing by Sentilla, and techniques for developing and debugging applications distributed across large numbers of pervasive computers.

PhD-NOW workshop

Monday, January 21st, 2008

The PhD-NOW workshop, following the success of PhD sessions at the senZations’06 and senZations’07 summer schools aims to provide a friendly and supportive atmosphere where PhD students can present their ongoing research for an open discussion, get constructive feedback and learn what problems are being tackled by the fellow students. More importantly, it also provides a venue for all participants to “network” with their peers and established networks researchers, obtain valuable guidance tips and participate in a forum designed specifically to benefit graduate students. We particularly encourage PhD students from the EU convergence regions and Western Balkan countries to take part in the workshop.

The PhD workshop will be a one-day, seminar-style event, consisting of short presentations followed by roundtable discussions. Time will be allotted to each student for the presentation, and for the following in-depth consideration and discussion.

Fifth International TinyOS Technology Exchange

Monday, January 21st, 2008

The next TinyOS Tech Exchange will be held on Feb. 22 at UC Berkeley in Sibley Auditorium.

It will continue the tradition of providing a forum for researchers, developers, educators, companies, and users to learn from one another about important recent developments within the TinyOS embedded network systems area and to participate in shaping paths of future development.

This year there will be in-depth presentations from the working groups, in addition to the community demonstrations and topical panels.

More details to follow soon.

CFP MCN08

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

The 2nd IEEE Workshop on Mission-Critical Networking MCN08, collocated with IEEE INFOCOM’2008, will be held this year in Phoenix, AZ.
Mission-Critical Networking refers to networking for application domains where life or livelihood may be at risk. Typical application domains for MCN include critical infrastructure protection, emergency and crisis intervention, and military operations. Such networking is essential for safety, security and economic vitality in our complex world characterized by uncertainty, heterogeneity and emergent behaviors.

MCN should comprise the best possible networking technology, infrastructure and services that may alleviate the risk and help save the lives of both the general public and the network users.

As advances in pervasive computing, wireless communication, ad hoc and mesh networking and networked sensor systems continue, more opportunities are being opened to mission-critical networks to benefit from these technologies. This workshop solicits high quality technical contributions to the area of mission-critical networking. The manuscript must explicitly address relevance to MCN.

Submission Deadline: February 15, 2008
Workshop Date: Friday, April 18, 2008
